Special Olympics Rochester Area (SORA) is the local Special Olympics delegation. They are in need of volunteers in a number of capacities to help with the running of their team. SORA is a dynamic, fast-growing Special Olympics program. Currently, more than 200 people with intellectual disabilities participate in SORA. Along with its sports program offerings, Special Olympics offers its athletes an opportunity for personal growth and development through its Athlete Leadership Programs (ALPs). These programs include Global Messengers (a public speaking course), Athletes as Coaches, Athletes as Volunteers, Challenges through Choice and Leadership and Governance 101. In order to participate in our ALPs programs, an athlete must have a mentor who can attend the ALPs training sessions and work with the athlete afterwards to help them implement what they have learned. More information about mentorship can be found at: http://specialolympicsminnesota.org/get-involved/become-a-volunteer/become-a-mentor/ SORA currently has a number of athletes interested in becoming involved in the ALPs programs, so mentors are in high demand!
